North Queensland is a paradise for tropical birdlife and wildlife, but for those of us who live here, the natural environment and its beauty is often lost in the mundane blur of every day working life.
Mackay and the Whitsunday region are often synonymous with beaches, fishing and the reef, but on the land, the breathtaking beauty and colour of flora and fauna are largely undiscovered, or just taken for granted. We look and we see, but fail to take it in. Nature is speaking to us, but we are often deaf to it’s thunder.
If you are lucky enough, one day you will wake up and your eyes will start to see what has been surrounding you all along.
“Hello world” the little juvenile sunbird is saying, an almost contented glaze in his eyes, as he leans against the chrome handrail, basking in the tropical afternoon heat. His feathers are slowly drying out after a 30 minute drenching in the tall Yucca plant, a ritual which has become a daily occurrence for him and his extended families……….. “Please let my life be beautiful and natural, and good things will come to you!”
The shrill chatter, the loud tweets, the friendship song, the call. I can hear you!
